Not Athletes
“Fishermen aren’t athletes, fishing is not a real sport”. I know we have all heard some wise azz make that statement. After a recent road trip to the FLW Cup in Little Rock Arkansas I beg to differ. I feel I’m in pretty good shape and can hold my own with most guys but let me tell you that road trip was a eye-opener. After 17 hours of driving covering a thousand plus miles fishing was the last thing on my mind my whole body hurt! After a couple of days of taking pictures and shooting some video it was back in the truck for my return trip. (Congrats to Scott Martin FLW Cup Champion) It took two days to recover once I got home so here is my point. Just about any other “Pro” works out a few hours a day plays 2-3 hour game (if that: I guess around of golf takes bit longer) hop on a plane to the next event. Now bring to the table a “Pro Fisherman” 40- 50 thousand road miles a year is not unheard of and that doesn’t even count game time. A normal “game” last a week if you include the 12 hour practice days competition days are a easy 9 hours add in the beating you can take from a rough boat ride. Then you have to rig rods take care of care of tackle and boat issues it makes for a long day. I hope one day we will see the sport of bass fishing catch up with some of the other, these guys deserve it. Oh I almost forgot they are chasing a green fish that has a mind of its own unlike a ball! My hats off to the dream chasers of the fishing world. Next time I’m flying!
